Thus far in our novel we have been discussing social problems (problems between people or groups of people). Read chapter 10 and list any and all passages that clue you in on the social problems that existed in the south during that time. Remember to list "what I thought" and "what I read."
In this novel, the author uses harsh language that would inappropriate if used in our community today. Reflect and explain your thinking about the following two discussion questions:
1: Why does the author choose to use language that we would see as unacceptable?
2: Is it okay for an author to use inappropriate language to portray a time period or perspective even if it offends people?
